BBC Listen Again Hits iPhone, TV On N96 Down Under

imageThe BBC continues its push into mobile. The company announced on its blog that listeners of the BBC’s radio programmes will be able to download the shows on demand on an iPhone or iPod touch for up to seven days after broadcast. The downloads will be over WiFi, and will be formatted in MP3, though it’s not clear how the DRM will work out. It’s an extension of the iPhone version of iPlayer, which the BBC earlier this month announced would also be ported to Nokia’s (NYSE: NOK) N96, released next week.

Meanwhile, its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, has struck a deal with Nokia to provide its N96 handset in Australia with free TV shows. Australian consumers who buy an N96 will be able to download for free one of four DRM-protected BBC TV shows including Walking Dinosaurs, Little Britain, The Catherine Tate Show and Yes Minister. The handsets will cost $1,349 Australian dollars (£611). BBC Worldwide has also struck similar deals that will see their content distributed on Nokia N96 phones in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
