Books Round-Up: Borders To Launch New E-Reader; Waterstones’ Books Quarterly Site

imageBorders’ e-reader: Less than a year after launching its iLiad e-reader, made by iRex Technologies, bookstore chain Borders is to launch a new, cheaper version in the next few weeks. CEO Philip Downer said: “We were the first to market in May of last year with the iLiad, which is still retailing at £400, but obviously the price point has moved since then. Although we continue to sell devices, a £400 reader isn’t sustainable. We will be looking to introduce something else to the stores in the course of the next few weeks.” Still no sign of Amazon’s Kindle in Europe. From thebookseller.com.

Waterstones: The retailer has launched a digital edition of its Books Quarterly magazine. The site is free, whereas the magazine costs £17 a year in print form. The site was developed by Seven Squared, and has audio and video featuring authors as well as reader forums. Via Marketing.
