Broadband Content Bits: Babelgum Documentaries; HMV’s In-Store Cinema; Mirror.co.uk Superbikes

imageBablegum: After funding its first original documentary last month, VOD platform Babelgum has now commissioned a documentary series designed to capitalise on the debate it generated. Downstream told the story of Canada’s oil sands and the new series of short documentaries will continue its environmental themes in the coming weeks. Via C21Media.net.

HMV: Now this is diversifying your business: high street music retailer HMV (LSE: HMV) is opening a 200-seat, three-screen cinema above its shop in Wimbledon, south-west London, this autumn in partnership with cinema chain Curzon Artifcial Eye. It is planned as the first of several HMV cinemas, that could also be rolled out to Waterstones book stores, which HMV owns. Earlier this year HMV made a £1 billion entry into the lucrative live music sector in joint venture with Mama Group. From Telegraph.co.uk.

Daily Mirror: The Daily Mirror will be showing British Superbikes races highlights on Mirror.co.uk in a partnership with broadcaster Eurosport. It’s part of a growing motorsports section on Mirror.co.uk that also has a blog written by Eurosport commentator James Haydon and some of the competition’s top riders. As part of the deal, Eurosport will be running ads in the paper’s motorsports sections on race weekends.

Virgin Records: Bands don’t just make a promo video and hope it gets played on MTV anymore: Virgin Records today releases an interactive video for its band Empire of the Sun in which fans are encouraged to click on icons to unlock additional material and take part in a competition. The video, for the song We Are the People, was developed by Product Magnet, sister group of Mavericks Film.
