Broadband Content Bits: Demand Five On BT Vision; Vodafone Rolls Out Book Service

Demand Five on BT (NYSE: BT) Vision: Five is rolling out its new VOD service, Demand Five, on the BT Vision platform. As Brandrepublic.com reports, Five is looking to launch its catch-up service on more platforms, hoping to mimic the BBC’s success with the roll out of its iPlayer on Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED) TV, which now accounts for a third of all BBC iPlayer views. Customers of BT’s on-demand TV service will be able to watch Five programmes such as the Gadget Show and Extraordinary People. Vision TV costs 99 pence on a pay-per-view basis, or £6 a month for its unlimited service.

Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) rolls out audio book service: Vodafone has struck a deal wih UK content provider GoSpoken to launch an audiobook service for the operator’s customers, who will be able to download audio versions of books to their mobile from several of the country’s biggest publishers, including HarperCollins, Random House and Penguin. Timesonline.co.uk reports that the books will cost between £5 and £15 ($9-$26) and will be billed directly to the customer’s monthly mobile bill. GoSpoken was launched in April and was co-founded and co-funded by author Andy McNab. An e-reader version of the service which will deliver text versions of the books to mobile is slated to follow shortly.
