Broadband Content Bits: iPlayer on PS3; Virgin Media; Stream5’s VC Deal; BBC Five Live Site

BBC-PS3: The Beeb’s released an updated version of the iPlayer for Sony (NYSE: SNE) PS3s. FM&T online controller Anthony Rose says the quality is almost as good as regular TV. Rose notes that users have been very keen on the service, which “bodes well for Canvas and other IPTV propositions”. More from the BBC Internet Blog.

Virgin Media: Virgin has launched an online searchable listings service for its on demand TV service and working on bringing the system to the on-screen EPG. At the same time the VMED has released a YouTube app that allows users to customise videos with music and visual effects, as part of its 50Mbps ad campaign. From Digitalspy.co.uk.

Stream5: Munich-based VOD technology provider Stream5 has secured a “seven-figure” (in Euros) VC injection from KfW Bankengruppe and private investor Klaus Wecken, in a deal brokered by existing backers duMont Venture and Tiburton Partners. Release.

BBC Five Live The Beeb’s rolling news and sport station has a new website, which indexes all the station’s podcast, listen-again content and live video feeds.
