imageZinio-Vaio: How do you increase magazine subscriptions? Give them away for free with laptops. Digital edition-maker Zinio has signed a deal with Sony (NYSE: SNE) to give Europeans who buy a Vaio laptop a year’s online access to one magazine of their choice. Buyers have to also sign up for the Club Vaio scheme to get access to the “digital newsstand”. British online edition company John Menzies Digital told us in March it was seeking a similar deal with laptop manufacturers in the UK.

Joost desktop: Just five months after it abandoned its desktop-based video player in favour of web-streaming, Joost users can now use a Joost desktop player made by someone else. As the company notes on its blog, developer Paul Yanez has created the player using Joost’s content API and Abobe Air. It has a full programme guide, Twitter integration and Joost says: “We are always excited when external companies and developers come up with new ways to add interactivity to content.”

Fish4love: Online classified ads company Fish4 has moved into online dating through a partnership with White Label Dating. Ad-supported Fish4love.co.uk is now live and offers free membership. From NMA.

Spotify: More tweaks for still-growing free music player Spotify: the 0.3.15 version, soon to be released, will have an improved home page, French language translation and the ability to search for tracks from a specific music label. From the Spotify blog.
