imageJoost, which has been steadily building its content repertoire, has now had to do a takedown. CEO Mike Volpi writes in a blog post he had to remove “some retro TV shows and movies” from Sony (NYSE: SNE) Pictures: “Naturally, it’s disappointing to us – but we are optimistic that we’ll be able to reach a new arrangement with Sony soon.”

Affected content includes I Dream Of Jeanie, Silver Spoons and some films. But why the takedown exactly? A Joost spokesperson told us: “The content we have available on Joost changes for a number of reasons: for example, content owners’ rights may change, content owners business objectives may change, or our business objectives may change. We are currently working to reach a new arrangement with Sony Pictures, and while that is underway, we have taken their titles off Joost.”

Volpi wrote the amount of content cleared for online distribution by likes of CBS (NYSE: CBS), Warner Bros and Viacom (NYSE: VIA) has increased in the past few months and he sees “signs that the industry is maturing and moving in the right direction”.  Volpi says Joost will announce “major news” this month on some major additions to its catalogue.
