XBox-Sky: BSkyB’s Sky Player service has finally gone live on Microsoft’s XBox 360 console offering Sky channels on a live and on-demand basis. You don’t need a satellite dish—but you do need a gold XBox Live membership worth £40 a year in order to buy Sky subscription packages. Via the Reg.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) Vidzone Sony’s PlayStation-based, music VOD service VidZone has chosen German ad agency Smartclip to look after its European sales account, handling pre- and post-roll ads. Sony Bravia TVs will also get access to VidZone as part of the model’s forthcoming IPTV capabilities next year. From Mediaweek.

Sky IPTV: Sky has signed a deal to let advertising tech company OpenTV use its patents and IP rights, which could result in Sky adopting OpenTV’s new Core3 middleware technology on its set-top boxes. Core3 launches in mid-2010 and its maker claims it allows the integration of consumer services and Flash or Java-based third party app/widgets. Via Itvt.com.

Radio website: The BBC and the commercial radio industry is reportedly working on an industry-wide website to host up to 500 networks, which could launch in beta this year. Andrew Harrison, CEO of the commercial sector body RadioCentre, says “the (commercial) sector wants it to happen and we are working in a cross-industry team. I’d hope we would have something ready to test shortly, before Christmas.” From Independent.co.uk.
