BSkyB VoD Rebadged ‘Sky Player’ - Rhymes With ‘iPlayer’

BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) is unveiling its second major update to its Sky Anytime VoD platform inside the last six months - an enhanced version of Sky Anytime that includes live channels, progressive downloading, a new UI, personalisation… and a new name. The new “Sky Player” - re-Christened “in recognition of the public’s growing awareness of additional online video ‘player’ services” - offers live channels to Multiroom customers, or for £10 a month to others. Free-to-view shows will also start automatically, much like the web version of the BBC’s iPlayer.

BSkyB claims “hundreds of thousands” of registered users for the service, which launched in 2006, is powered by Kontiki and in December added the in-browser version of the media distribution software to appeal to more users.

I have tried this service out and am very disappointed, the kontiki KService.exe played havoc with the broadband speed slowing it down so much that I had to uninstall it, so this means I am no longer able to watch the programmes on my computer, there must be a better way of running Sky Player? Tried downloading Pathfinder and it was still trying to download after 6 hours.
