CBS Brings Its Game Industry Data Service To UK

CBS’ games site GameSpot is bringing its industry intelligence-gathering service to the UK.

GameSpot Trax includes data from 4.5 million UK gamers.

The service is packaged as a tool for retailers, games publishers and marketers to measure consumer interest and buzz around particular titles.

For actual sales, GFK Chart-Track produces numbers for the European Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA).

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that the hottest title of the moment is Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, currently sitting top of the chart after racking up $310 million in U.S. and UK sales in its first 24 hours.

GameSpot Trax is one example of how publishers may not sell content but can sell data services. CBS (NYSE: CBS) is targeting a UK games market it reckons is worth £3.8 billion (Mintel: 2008).
