The company started in 1996 and became one of the most popular providers of hit counters to web pages; today its main product is Sitestat.

ComScore says the acquisition is designed both for global expansion, “particularly in Europe”, and to inject more oomph in to its own reporting platform, as such companies look to become one-stop-shop powerhouses in their field.

CEO Magid Abraham, in the announcement: “We are committed to using Nedstat’s technology to develop new applications, greater scalability, a more expansive data set, and a unified and consistent view of audience statistics.”

Nedstat CEO Michael Kinsbergen is joining comScore’s advisory board, CTO Fred Appelman and chief innovations officer Michiel Berger are joining in unspecified “senior strategy and technology roles”.

The buy will bring comScore a projected extra $4 million revenue for the rest of the year, the company says.

This year, comScore has already bought the product division of mobile analytics firm Nexius and research firm ARS Group.
