Confirmed: Kip Meek Will Chair Canvas
The Meek shall inherit Project Canvas. Kip Meek, that is. The Broadband Stakeholder Group chairman has been named as chairman by the partners in the Project Canvas connected-TV venture.
But, though Meek will chair the board, he won’t run the joint venture outright. According to the announcement, he will “oversee the appointment of a chief executive officer, who will have day to day operational responsibility for the new organisation”.
Meek is resigning his Broadband Stakeholder Group chairmanship plus his directorship with Phorm and his full-time Ingenious Media directorship to take this role.
BBC future media and technology director Erik Huggers: “Project Canvas can now continue its journey towards incorporation as a business standing on its own two feet. On behalf of the shareholders, I’m delighted to have attracted someone as respected as Kip Meek to the challenge.”
Previously Meek held several Ofcom roles, helping unite previously disparate media regulators in to today’s super-regulator.
Project Canvas may be appointing additional partners in the coming weeks, having examined further submissions of interest recently.
