A good profile of DailyMotion, the international online video site which is headquartered in Paris, and its efforts to distinguish itself from the YouTube juggernaut. Dailymotion ranks a distant second, according to ComScore (NSDQ: SCOR), but in France, it has managed to pull ahead of YouTube. It is now trying in U.K and U.S. In U.K., it recently appointed Kate Burns, former MD of Google (NSDQ: GOOG) in Britain, as its new MD. In U.S., the management is considering an existing French approach from the home office: staging showings of the best videos at local cinemas.

And it has some money: it raised $34 million in venture capital in late August from five European investors, including Paris-based AGF Private Equity, a member of the Allianz Group. As for ts own revenues, it would not disclose it, though the IHT story cites sources which say it will earn more than Euro 10 million this year. The company itself says it will break nine figures this year, and expects to be break even.
