U.K. magazine publisher and radio operator Emap has bought Planet Retail, an online B2B publisher of news to the global retail and food industries, for a hefty £23 million ($45 million). Emap announced the site, which operates by subscription or pay-as-you-go, will fit well with its portfolio of B2B publications including WGSN, World Retail Congress, Retail Week, Drapers and Spring Fair, which variously cover fashion and retail. Indeed, Tessa Cook, publishing director of Emap’s own Retail Week title, has now been promoted to managing director of Planet Retail. Headquartered in London, Planet Retail claims subscribers in over 3,000 organizations.
