French Music Streamer Deezer Raises €6.5 Million Second Round
Deezer, the Paris-based music streaming and discovery service, has raised €6.5 million (£6 million) as it looks to expand its growth through the creation of a parent company, Odyssey Music Group.
By putting an umbrella over it, Deezer will use OMG to support production activities and some technological developments, with a particular focus on mobile. With this round, which was backed by AGF Private Equity and CM- CIC Capital Prive, Deezer has raised a total of €12.2 million (£11.4 million) since opening its doors two years ago.
The company initially drew some copyright lawsuits from record companies when it debuted as BlogMusik. But as Techcrunch notes, the company was able to come to some agreement with the music companies and shedded BlogMusik name, though Deezer will continue to list that name as its holding company.
The OMG unit will operate as a separate brand from both BlogMusik and Deezer. The site claims about 10 million users, with 6 million in France. Release
