Updated: Guardian Cuts 82 Commercial Jobs

The job losses are now coming from multiple parts of Guardian Media Group units. Just a few weeks after saying it would cut 50 of its 850 editorial staff as part of £10 million savings, GMG’s Guardian News & Media is now also cutting 82 out of 840 posts from its commercial operations, including publishing and events unit Guardian Professional, the paper’s own website reports. Forty-four cuts come from not filling vacancies, six fixed-term contracts won’t be renewed, and 32 existing posts will be made redundant.

Recently, GMG Regional Media’s Manchester Evening News titles cut 150 and its Channel M TV station eliminated 41 posts. Of course, GNM isn’t alone in having to find savings during the media downturn. Too many publishers to name (see our “layoffs” tag) have pruned staff in recent months.

PaidContent:UK’s publisher ContentNext is a wholly owned subsidiary of Guardian News & Media. ContentNext cut eight jobs across the company on Thursday, both full-time staff and contractors.
