Hawkins Mobile Games Cafe Modelled On Starbucks

Digital Chocolate CEO Trip Hawkins has hinted at the companies plans to launch a new mobile games brand, Café, which will let players socialize, create digital characters, and recommend games to their friends. “Inspired by the success of Starbucks—which he describes as a third place between work and home where people can gather and enjoy a social experience with a personalized cup of coffee—Mr. Hawkins wants Café to offer the same thing in a mobile package,” writes Red Herring. So the games will give players the ability to create customized spaces to meet their friends, earn prizes, recommend games and try games before buying them. Popular titles like solitaire and sudoku will make an appearence, but Hawkins didn’t give any more details—such as whether 3rd party games would be included. More details will be announced later this month, and Hawkins said the brand will be launched in Europe first with “very one of the major operators endorsing Café and planning to launch it. The article also notes that Digital Chocolate has had 30 million games downloaded since its 2003 founding.
