Hi-Media Buys In To Music And Women’s Sites Around Europe
Growing French online publisher and ad network Hi-Media is buying in to more verticals with three online acquisitions and several other launches…
—Magicrpm: It’s entering the music segment by acquiring Bonne Nouvelle Editions, which publishes music news, reviews and blog site Magicrpm.com. Magicrpm.com describes itself as an “uber cool indie pop website” - for over 10 years, it’s covered the independent rock and electronic music market in France; it also publishes a print magazine - this deal is similar to UK music community and showcase TourDates buying news and reviews site SoundGenerator last month. Hi-Media is paying just €1 but Magicrpm.com founders get an earn-out based on performance up to 2009.
—Vivat.be: It’s taken a 35 percent stake in Belgian female well-being site Vivat.be for just €40,000, adding to its 500,000 Belgian users.
—Mujeractual: Hi-Media has bought Spanish women’s site Mujeractual.com outright for just €40,000, planning to integrate it with its Hispanic-centric Fotolog community.
At the same time, Hi-Media is expanding outside of France by launching MonProgramme-TV (Belgium) and Das-TV-Programm (Germany) and by localising its Blogorama blog portal and Fotolog site for those countries and Spain.
Hi-Media already published content sites including JeuxVideo.com (video games), ToutLeCine (movies) and ActuStar.com, and blogs under the Blogorama banner. Its biggest claim was buying Flickr competitor Fotolog last year for €65.8 million (£51.78 million), but later acquisitions include a stake in the Sport.fr portal and mobile marketing firm Mobile Trend for €7 million (£5.5 million).
