The History Channel has launched a direct-to-consumer WAP portal in the UK, the first one it has done (although it does have carrier deals in Europe and Latin America). It’s run by arvato and localized versions will be launched in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia later this year. The service includes a “This Day in History daily feature with text and images, program information, video highlights, quizzes, wallpapers, games, polls and competitions”, as well as access to its encyclopaedia, reports Total Content and Media. It will be available via subscription or pay per download, although the prices aren’t given.
