Industry Moves: WSJ Adds European Opinion Editor

The Wall Street Journal continues its European expansion from its new London HQ, moving its Global View column editor Bret Stephens to be deputy editorial page editor for its international opinion pages and making Brussels-based editorial writer Brian Carney editorial page editor for the Wall Street Journal Europe edition.

Carney will move to London, where he will oversee opinion for both the newspaper and website, reporting to Stephens. He joined WSJ in 2000 and won this year’s Gerald Loeb Award for Commentary for editorials on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Guardian.co.uk editorial development head Neil McIntosh joined as online Europe editor and WSJ LA bureau chief Bruce Orwall as London chief in October, Andrew Langhoff was promoted from running DJ’s Ottaway local business to WSJ Europe editor and EMEA MD in December.
The company redesigned its Europe and Asia websites consistent with its earlier US overhaul this February. Former Sunday Telegraph editor Patience Wheatcroft was in June named WSJ Europe editor-in-chief.
