INM Sells Indian Publisher Stake; Still No Sign Of Indie Sale
When Independent New & Media said it wanted to offload €100 million in “non-core” media assets to help its debt burden, it seems it didn’t have The Independent titles in mind. INM has sold a 7.3 percent stake in Indian publisher Jagran Prakashan, which owns the country’s most read daily newspaper Dainik Jagran, after already selling businesses in New Zealand. Reports persistently link Russian billionaire and Evening Standard proprietor Alexander Lebedev to a bid for the loss-making Indie, but despite talks taking place over the last 12 months a firm offer has yet to emerge.
