ITN Signs Ad Deal For Free iPhone News App
The UK’s most-downloaded free iPhone news app is about to start making some money: British news agency ITN has signed up 4th Screen Advertising to sell ads on the app, which sits at the top of Apple’s free news app chart in the UK less than two months after its launch. 4th Screen, part of Mobile Interactive Group, says the 12-month deal takes its iPhone ad network to more than 10 million monthly page impressions (via Mediaweek). The company also has mobile ad deals with UK publishers including Guardian News and Media, ITV (LSE: ITV) and and Bauer.

On its launch ITN told us the point of the app was to get ITN’s videos “out there” on to the iPhone audience. ITN also made an with Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Gears launched earlier this year. But ITN’s head of new media Ave Wrigley also told Techradar.com that the iPhone app would be a “test bed” to see if demand would justify the significant investment needed to develop apps on Symbian and Blackberry platforms. On the current evidence it looks like future launches might be worthwhile.
