Minogue’s Ex Sues UK Newspapers In France: Web Took Breach Over Borders

Kylie Minogue’s ex just keeps on setting legal precedents. A French court has ordered two UK newspapers to pay fines for breaking privacy law in France - because they publish to the country on the web. Olivier Martinez had reacted angrily to the suggestion he was seeing Minogue again, published on the sites of Sunday Mirror, Mail Online and ThisIsLondon together with details of the pair’s whereabouts, so he went to court. Mirror Group Newspapers and DMGT argued the Tribunal De Grande Instance De Paris had no jurisdiction over its stories - but the court disagreed because the sites are accessible in France, and fined all three sites €4,500 each, Out-Law said. Martinez also last month successfully sued other websites merely for including an RSS link to a similar story.
