Katz’s MySpace Exit Confirmed, Replaced By Horne
After weeks of speculation, confirmation of MySpace international SVP and MD Travis Katz‘s exit has come in a memo from CEO Owen Van Natta (via TechCrunch). But, although MySpace is shedding 300 of its 450 international staff, Katz’s role will remain - Europe and Australia GM Rebeckah Horne is stepping up to replace him.
From Van Natta’s memo: “Rebekah spent last week in LA working with us on strategic planning and this week I plan to join her in London to meet with our leadership team in Europe ... Travis was one of the principal authors of the company’s digital strategy, which led to the creation of Fox Interactive Media (NYSE: NWS) and the acquisitions of MySpace and IGN among other sites.”

Katz’s joined MySpace in 2006 and basically opened the site outside of the US, ballooning to 21 separate European territories alone. Seems it’s that which prompted Rupert Murdoch to say: “The business sort of grew out of control and really out of size. I blame myself and it had to be brought back in size.” Despite Katz’s shoes being filled, there have otherwise been European exec cutbacks…
Euro marketing and content SVP Jamie Kantrowitz has moved to a similar role in New York while Jay Stevens, one of the first MySpace execs to be posted to the UK, left last month to join online ad startup Rubicon; UK MD Anthony Lukom is also said to have exited.
