Music Community TourDates Buys News Site SoundGenerator

Privately-owned TourDates, a Camden-based music news site, artist showcase and fan community, has bought SoundGenerator, a news and reviews site, for an undisclosed but likely small amount in an all-cash transaction. TourDates also publishes a magazine, includes gig listings, 3,100 tracks and has a degree of ad support; it lets unsigned acts create profiles for themselves. SoundGenerator launched in 2001 and has 20 correspondents. TourDates said the deal combines the UK’s leading two independent music outlets (the NME may have fallen out of favour with many fans but there’s little to quantify the claim) and will help it create a “disruptive 360 model”. Release.
