MyHeritage Buying UK Family Tree Site Kindo
Kindo, a genealogy 2.0 site we first wrote about in February, is being bought by online family tree giant MyHeritage. The Putney-based site, at that time, got funding from Ambient Sound Investments (ASI), the Estonian-based VC house started by some of Skype’s founding engineers. The Accelerator Group’s Saul and Robin Klein and original Last.fm backer Stefan Glanzer had already given earlier seed funds.
Kindo founder and Skype alum Nils Hammar writes that he was particularly attracted to MyHeritage’s SmartMatching technology, which suggests relatives to users from its database of 25 million: “The more time we spent with (founder) Gilad (Japhed), the more convinced we all became - we’ll be better off together. So we join the MyHeritage family because we share the same vision and values (as families should), and because we think that we can build an amazing product together.” The acquisition lets MyHeritage build a new London office. Kindo trees will be transferred to MyHeritage next week.
