New Media Resolutions #1: Peter Bale, Executive Producer, MSN UK
Over Christmas and New Year, paidContent:UK is asking digital media execs to pledge a resolution for the year ahead and look back at the last 12 months. First up is Peter Bale, executive producer, MSN UK…
—What’s your New Year’s resolution?: “From an advertising point of view, we have to show excellent return on investment and also innovate with new ad formats and specials. There is a great opportunity, as others stop investing in the downturn, to get greater market share in audience and among advertisers. We have to be ready to stay the course and capitalise on the misfortunes of others – particularly newspaper sites.”
—Biggest regret of 2008?: “No huge regrets. We’ve had a good crop of innovations so I can’t complain that we haven’t been able to try new things. I wish the advertising market for Environment had been stronger just after we launched the new channel and I think we have much more to do with audience engagement and user-generated content.”
—What will really happen next year?: “Personally, my New Year resolution is to get my blog running with commentary on the industry and other observations. I have been too busy pushing the site to give thought to broader considerations – mind you, I have become a fairly fervent Tweeter. I also want to do much more with video and user content on the site. We have to work out how big MSN can be in video and experiment more.”
Tune in over the festive period for pledges and predictions from Anthony Rose, Dana Dunne, Mark Rock, Rory Cellan-Jones and more…
