O2 UK Improves In Telefonica’s Year-To-Date
O2 UK customer churn came in at just 1.1 percent in the first half of the year, despite a year of data network outages.
The telco has 4.5 percent more customers now than last year. Operating income grew 7.7 percent to €883 million ($1.1 billion).
Parent Telefonica (NYSE: TEF), in its half-year earnings, hails O2 UK’s “bold move on tiered data pricing in the UK”, referring to its recent decision to end unlimited data.
—Telefonica scored net profit of €2.12 billion on 5.4 percent higher revenue of €29.5 billion.
—Mobile internet/data accesses hiked by a quarter from last year to 16.3 million.
—Pay TV customers at home in Spain are up 22.7 percent to 748,000.
iPhone 4 went on sale on June 24, at the end of Telefonica’s half-year period, though it says O2 UK smartphone sales increased due to iPad and iPhone 4.
