Online TV Will Only Take Two Percent Of TV Revenue Share By 2012: Report

Despite the on-going success of the BBC’ iPlayer and other VOD services from BT (NYSE: BT) and Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED), online TV will make up less than two per cent of total TV revenues in the UK by 2012. In a report given to the Screen Digest’s Future of Online Media Distribution conference last week, Screen Digest’s own head of broadcast media Arash Amel predicted a combination of limited reach, under-developed ad sales and prohibitive costs would keep ROI from the sector well below what its main players would hope for. He suggested that only 10 to 15 percent of all online video consumed in the UK is actually monetiseable, with YouTube and the BBC with its iPlayer dominating the field. Release.
