OpenAds Rebrands Again, Now Called OpenX

Stick to something, will ya? OpenAds, the commercial open-source online ad server firm based in London, has changed its name again, this time to OpenX, in an effort to expand, and possibly after finding out that margins on ad serving are low and competition is tough. “We plan to move with our publishers beyond our core open source ad serving software. That will always be our heart and soul. But as we start to roll out our hosted service and look towards the future, we thought the time was right to evolve our name to reflect the suite of services we hope one day to offer our publisher community.”

As someone points out in the comments here: phpAds, phpAdsNew, phpPgAds, Max Media Manager, OpenAds, OpenX…. When it will stop?”

The company has about $20.5 million in funding from Accel Partners, Index Ventures, First Round Capital, Mangrove Capital Partners and O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures.

Disclaimer: We use the software to serve ads currently, but are moving away to a commercial software.
