imageTube contract: Transport for London is opening the bidding for its fresheet distribution contract, which has been held by DMGT’s Metro publisher Associated Newspapers since 1999. TfL is this time lowering the contract length from 10 to seven and a half. Bidders have until June 3 to join the contest and the winner will be announced late this year. At stake are the rights to distribute at all 250 tube stations and 20 bus stations across the capital. Via Press Gazette.

Indie boss’ print pledge: IN&M MD Simon Kelner says rumours The Independent could go free are “a load of bollocks”. Also: “We make tens and tens of millions in circulation revenues…To have only one source of revenue leaves you very exposed. And that goes for the idea of online only too.” INM has now moved into office space at Associated Newspapers’ HQ in Kensington, but Kelner rejects the idea that DMGT might be interested in buying the Indie. Telegraph legal threat: Lawyers acting for Telegraph Media Group owners Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay have attempted to shut down the blog of under-fire Conservative MP Nadine Dorries. She writes that, after fending off negative press coverage for her sympathetic defence of MPs, she “has had to deal with the minor problem of the Barclay Brothers’ use of global lawyers and the removal of my blog site on behalf of the Telegraph Group”.

Plan B magazine: Independent music magazine Plan B is to close down after its fifth anniversary edition in June. The magazine posted a message on its own forum which read: “The current economic climate, combined with the situation of the music industry…has made it ever harder for us to continue producing the magazine the way we want to.” The mag has two full-time and four part-time and many freelance writers.
