Print Round-Up: New AOP Co-Chair; Sport Media Group; Johnston Press
—Association of Online Publishers: The AOP has a new co-chair: Thomson Reuters’ general manager for consumer media Tim Faircliff will take up the post until next March alongside Telegraph Media Group digital director Alison Reay. Both take over from Guardian Media Group director of publishing Simon Waldman who stepped down last year. Release.
—Sport Media Group: Just after announcing it would consider offers for all or part of the business, Sport Media Group’s editorial director Barry McIlheney has left the company after 14 months. The former Emap executive who launched lads’ mag Zoo, Heat and Empire was brought in to head a £1 million relaunch of the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport as mainstream “news-zine” titles. That plan was abandoned after poor sales and last July former Cambridge Evening News editor Murray Morse was appointed editor-in-chief. Via PG.
—Johnston Press: The 13 Irish titles put up for sale by Johnston Press earlier this month made a €12 million (£10.64 million) profit last year. That’s down on the €15 million it made in 2007 and 2006, but still a tidy sum given the 15.5 percent advertising revenue drop across Johnston between March and November last year—revenue across the group fell €8 million (£7.09 million) last year to €38 million (£33 million). via Independent.ie.
