Sarnoff Leaves Dow Jones To Join BBC Worldwide America As COO

Herb Scannell continues to pull former Viacom (NYSE: VIA) colleagues into BBC Worldwide America. The latest is Ann Sarnoff, who left Dow Jones after four years to be Scannell’s COO. Sarnoff was president of Dow Jones Ventures and SVP-Strategy; she survived the News Corp (NSDQ: NWS). acquisition and several re-orgs, adding the strategy role in the latest one. (WSJ Digital head Gordon McLeod said today that he is leaving DJ.)

Dow Jones President Todd Larsen told staff in a memo this morning that “in the coming days and weeks, [they’ll] be sharing plans for the organization and leadership of her groups.” I was told there are no appointments immediately in the offing.
Sarnoff joined DJ to head the new ventures group in 2006 following a stint as COO of the WNBA but the bulk of her background is in cable. She spent a decade at Viacom, where she was EVP-Consumer Products & Business Development for Nickelodeon and COO for VH1 and CMT.
Last week, Scannell appointed Viacom alum Perry Simo to the new post of general manager, channels, responsible for growth strategy and creative direction, including programming, marketing and operations. In addition to 13 years at NBC (NYSE: GE), Simon was president of Viacom Productions for 10 years. In recent years, he was chief content officer of Sezmi Corp. and had his own production company.
