Secretive e-Commerce Site Shutl.co.uk Gets £500k Funding

Forthcoming e-commerce business Shutl.co.uk has received £500,000 in VC funds from a group of investors including Bebo founder Paul Birch, Big Bang Ventures and Shazam and LoveFilm angel investor Dr Simon Murdoch, who joins the company’s board as non-exec chariman. It’s the second funding announcement this month from Birch who is also backing online accounting service Crunch.co.uk.

Shutl was founded in 2008 by eCourier.co.uk founder Tom Allason and is set to launch in early December—but the company won’t tell us much else other than that. Marketing VP Guy Westlake told us details were being kept under wraps to maintain a “first mover advantage”, adding: “As far as we’re aware the service we’re going to provide is unique currently”. All we have is the release‘s vague boast that the company will “re-define e-commerce”. We’ll see…
