Championship Manager Turns Real: MyFootballClub.co.uk Members Buy Controlling Stake In Club

In what may be the ultimate fantasy football play, English lower leagues soccer club Ebbsfleet United has agreed to be purchased by a community of fans moblised online. Myfootballclub.co.uk, a group set up earlier this year to allow fans to raise funds to buy a team will pay £700,000 for a controlling 51 percent stake, with an option to buy outright in future. Some 20,000 fans signed on with Myfootballclub.co.uk, stumping up £35 each. Though Ebbsfleet is currently ninth in England’s lowly Football Conference. Ebbsfleet chairman Jason Botley said the extra money would help the team progress (via BBC News).
