T-Mobile Slashes G1 Tariff To Stimulate Sales
Just a mere short month after the launch of the G1 in the UK, T-Mobile, its exclusive carrier, has cut the price of the tariff to keep the handset competitive with other high end smartphones; but it’s not a reaction to poor sales, reports Mobiletoday.co.uk. The G1 is now free to customers signing up for an 18-month contract of £30 a month. When the phone launched in early November, the tariff was priced £10 higher at £40 a month. The hope is that the lower price will capture a wider base of consumers. A T-Mobile spokesperson said the operator was “well on track” to hit their sales forecasts. Some of the G1’s competitors include Vodafone’s Blackberry Storm, launched in mid-November, as well as the iPhone which is getting an additional push from more holiday season advertising. T-Mobile retail director Andrew Coull told Mobile Today recently that the G1 was its best selling handset by “a long shot”.
