Time 100 List Honours Radiohead, Arrington, Ballmer, Jobs

You’re reading it here first ... the much-hyped Time 100 list, due to be announced on Time.com overnight and at newsstands Friday, will include Radiohead, in honour of last year’s groundbreaking pay-what-you-like album experiment.

In a quirk of irony, the magazine’s piece on the band is penned by Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr.: “Does that mean we view the future as a giant tip jar? Not exactly—and I suspect Radiohead doesn’t either, particularly in light of the commercial success In Rainbows had after the ‘pay any price’ offer ended.”

Though Radiohead is leaving people to guess exactly how much it made from October’s online-only In Rainbows release, the project has caused ripples in the industry, with more acts following suit - like Coldplay, only this week. Despite the publicity about the dizzying prospect of a music industry without labels, a dissatisfied Radiohead had long left EMI before embarking on the project and have since said they always planned to release physical copies of their seventh collection.

Add to Time’s list tech luminaries Jay Adelson, Paul Allen, Michael Arrington, Steve Ballmer, Steve Jobs, Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy; Mark Zuckerberg. Who’s missing? To start, anyone missing a Y chromosome; we’re now accept nominations in the comments.
