Uri Geller‘s Explorologist company has agreed to license a controversial YouTube video via Creative Commons, after money changed hands in a court case about the disputed clip.

The case began last year when, in an effort to expose the psychic as a fraud, Brian Sapient of the Rational Response Squad sceptic group reproduced on YouTube an eight-second excerpt from Geller’s 1993 appearance on US TV network Nova. Geller sued Sapient under America’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) but the Electronic Frontier Foundation counter-sued, citing fair use of the excerpt.

Now Explorogist and Sapient have settled in an agreement which sees Geller license the clip for non-commercial use via CC; a monetary settlement was also reached. The EFF was clearly giggling when it wrote: “The agreement should allow the healthy debate about the existence of ‘supernatural powers’ to continue without interference.”
