Vodafone Gets Exclusive Advance Access To Madonna; Culls 450 Jobs
Mobile news from sister site mocoNews.net:
— Vodafone Strikes Exclusive Madonna Deal: Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) has struck a deal with record label Warner Music to give the operator’s customers exclusive advance access to music and mobile content from Madonna’s upcoming album, “Hard Candy.” Vodafone customers around the world will get the content—seven music tracks—a week ahead of its April 28th general release. Beginning on 21 April, one track will be released each day of the week and will remain live for 24 hours for download before it is replaced by the next track. It will be interesting to see if Vodafone’s tactic of dripping out a song a day, and limiting the time its available will boost sales. (release).
— Vodafone Culls Senior Staff: Vodafone also announced separately that it is slashing the troops. Reuters reports that it is cutting 450 jobs within UK management, but plans to recruit a similar number of new hires in data retail and other sales roles. Most of the redundancies—which represents a 20 percent cull of senior management—will affect its Newbury head office.
