WPP may join the growing number of UK businesses planning to relocate to Ireland to lower their tax bill. Accountancy Age reports that the advertising giant’s chief Sir Martin Sorrell has said such a move could save the firm “tens of millions of pounds” a year off the £200 million pounds they currently pay in taxes. Companies are especially eager to avoid being taxed on foreign profits—currently under the Treasury’s consideration. WPP’s decision comes just days after B2B publisher and conference company United Business Media said they were relocating to Ireland for tax reasons. On Wednesday, Alistair Darling launched a review of the competitiveness of the UK tax system to help stem the tide of companies defecting to cheaper tax havens.
