Vivendi’s UMG To Buy BMG Music Publishing For $2.1 Billion; Napster Suit Settled

Vivendi’s Universal Music Group is buying BMG Music Publishing for about $2.1 billion that makes the world’s biggest seller of recorded music also the largest in music publishing. German media conglomerate Bertelsmann, parent of BMG, also announced that it is settling litigation related to the original Napster that will see Vivendi receive $60 million.
The deal faces regulatory review by competition authorities in both the United States and Europe.
